Wednesday night was full of tears and tantrums, Stan had a melt down over his chips but I knew it was much more than that.

At bedtime I said good night to him, he burst into tears. He couldn't tell me what he was worried about and just said he didn't want to go. I tried my hardest to reassure him that everything would be ok, then headed downstairs and cried.

I hate that he is so anxious, I blame myself a lot as I have anxiety however I try so hard not to let him see that side of me.

Thursday morning he didn't want breakfast and said he didn't want to go to school. We talked, more reassurance and some rescue remedy and we were off to school. Lots of small talk on the way and thankfully we got there at the right time which meant we didn't have to queue for long, he said bye, gave me a kiss and walked across the playground to his new classroom.

I was so bloody proud, I had built this up for weeks in my head and could all of a sudden feel my shoulders drop. I text my parents and sister saying 'he fucking did it', maybe should have chosen some better language but I was so shocked.

After I dropped Ernie at preschool I headed to the car, I got in and cried. Pure relief. My little boy had walked across that playground with no fuss and went to see his friends for the first time in 6 months.

I was desperate to speak to him all day to tell him how proud I was of him, I wish I could have text him! But it was soon pick up time and off to swimming. He was beaming when I picked him up and I stuck to my word and treated him to a takeaway which he was so grateful for.

And that's it, the first week finished. I am pleased it was only 2 days this week as he is very tired!

I can already see how much of an impact being back at school has had on him, he's happier, keen to learn again and excited about seeing his friends.

6 months we have survived, we kept our kids safe whilst the world was such an uncertain place.

We made it, parents be proud 👏🏼
